The distinctive K-wing consists of two maneuvering wings connected to a large, fixed stabilizer. However, it is also a competent escort fighter and short-range reconnaissance vehicle. The K-wing's ideal mission profile involves close-range, precision bombardment of planetary targets, space stations, or slow-moving capital ships. Like the X-wing and other New Republic starfighters, the K-wing was designed to fulfill a specific combat role while maintaining some degree of versatility. Descendants of the Y-wing, K-wings first appeared during the Black Fleet Crisis 16 standard years after the Battle of Yavin, and have been mobilized for nearly every subsequent conflict. The K-wing is one of the most recent starfighters produced by Koensayr for the New Republic's ongoing conflicts with Imperial Remnant forces and other threats.
